Police Investigate Viral Video of ‘Gambling Den Worker’ Confrontation in Ipoh
The Ipoh police are currently investigating a viral video that allegedly shows a group of men scolding a worker at a convenience store suspected of operating an illegal gambling den. The video, which has captured public attention, was brought to the attention of the Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan, on Sunday.
The one-minute and forty-seven-second video depicts a group of men claiming to represent a non-governmental organization reprimanding a woman behind a table at the shop. One of the men is seen leaving the store with a piece of paper reportedly containing illegal lottery numbers. In the video, another man calls upon the police to investigate the shop.
Assistant Commissioner Yahaya stated that they do not have any information about when the incident took place but have identified the shop’s location as Taman Rishah. However, when the police checked the premises, it was not operational. As a result, they are calling on the individuals involved in the video to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Addressing the issue of illegal gambling, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya mentioned that this year alone, the police have conducted eight raids in Taman Rishah, resulting in the apprehension of eight individuals. Additionally, under Section 21A(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, premises found running unlicensed gambling operations have had their electricity supply disconnected. However, unlicensed gambling establishments often relocate in an attempt to evade authorities.
In light of their ongoing efforts to combat illegal gambling, the police are encouraging the public to provide any information that may aid in dismantling syndicated gambling activities in Ipoh. Information can be reported to the district police control center at 05-254 2222.
As the investigation into the viral video continues, the police remain focused on eradicating unlawful gambling operations and maintaining the integrity of Ipoh as a community.
