New Appointments to Aussie Crime Commission & Criminology Institute
I am pleased to announce the appointment of former ASIO Deputy Director General Heather Cook as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC).
Ms Cook’s five-year appointment will commence on 15 January 2024.
Ms Cook has over 33 years’ experience as an intelligence professional – most recently as Deputy Director General of ASIO. Ms Cook is currently a Member of the Distinguished Advisor Panel at the National Security College, Australian National University.
I am honored to be appointed as the CEO of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology, Ms Cook said. I look forward to leading these organizations in their vital work to combat crime and contribute to the safety and security of the Australian community.
The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission is Australia’s national criminal intelligence agency, specializing in investigations under the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002. The agency plays a crucial role in gathering intelligence, disrupting criminal networks, and supporting law enforcement agencies across the country.
The Australian Institute of Criminology is the nation’s leading research and knowledge center on crime and justice. The institute conducts research, collects and analyzes data, and provides evidence-based insights to inform policy-making and enhance understanding of crime-related issues.
Ms Cook’s extensive experience and expertise in intelligence and security make her an ideal candidate for these important positions within the Australian Crime Commission and the Criminology Institute. Her leadership will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and effectiveness of these organizations.
