The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party said on Sunday that no political party other than pro-government ones was participating in the January 7 general election.
The pro-BNP platform organized a discussion during which BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan criticized the lack of participation from non-pro-government parties, referring to the election as a staged election. He questioned who would be participating in the election and voiced surprise at the mobilization of law enforcement agencies and government employees for voting on a winter day.
Khan also criticized the excessive spending on the election, stating that the government should consider the economic condition of the country.
We said you should resign and hold elections under a non-partisan, neutral government, Khan added, highlighting the BNP’s long-held position.
The discussion was held on the occasion of the 43rd Victory Day and was organized by Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad. The convener of the Peshajibi Parishad, AZM Zahid Hossain, chaired the program.
The BNP’s criticism comes as concerns regarding the fairness and inclusivity of the upcoming election continue to be raised. The party has previously called for the formation of a non-partisan, neutral government to oversee the election process.
As the country prepares for the January 7 general election, political tensions remain high. The BNP’s allegations of a lack of participation from non-pro-government parties raise questions about the legitimacy and inclusivity of the electoral process. With less than 24 hours remaining until the election, all eyes are now on the results and their impact on the political landscape of Bangladesh.
