Gulmarg Shivers at -6.0°C Amid Fresh Snowfall and Rain in Kashmir, India

Gulmarg records the season’s coldest night at -6.0°C after snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 17 – Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, experienced the coldest night of the season at -6.0°C after higher reaches of the valley received fresh snowfall. In the past 24 hours, Gulmarg witnessed about 7 inches of snowfall and 132mm of rainfall, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.

The recent snowfall led to a drop in temperature, resulting in -6.0°C recorded overnight on Sunday. This was significantly lower than the previous night’s temperature of -2.8°C. The chilly night was 1.2°C below the normal temperature for Gulmarg.

The higher reaches of Kashmir valley also received a fresh spell of snowfall, further lowering the temperature at various stations. Additionally, light rains lashed several parts of the valley.

Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir, had a low temperature of -0.5°C on Sunday, which was slightly higher than the previous night’s temperature of -1.3°C. This temperature was 0.2°C above the normal range for this time of the season. Srinagar also recorded 0.2mm of rainfall within the past 24 hours.

Qazigund, located on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir, witnessed a low temperature of 0.0°C, a significant improvement compared to the -3.8°C recorded the day before. The region also received 0.2mm of rainfall during the same period.

Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot in south Kashmir, recorded a low temperature of -1.5°C, showing a rise from the previous night’s temperature of -5.1°C. This temperature was 2.9°C higher than the normal range for Pahalgam.

Kokernag registered a low temperature of -0.8°C, which was 0.9°C above the normal temperature of -1.7°C on Sunday.

Kupwara, a district in north Kashmir, experienced a low temperature of 1.1°C, a rise from the previous -1.0°C. The temperature in Kupwara was 3.5°C above the normal range. In addition, Kupwara received 3.6mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

The Meteorological Centre forecasts dry weather conditions until December 23. However, from December 24-26, there is a possibility of light snowfall in isolated higher reaches, accompanied by generally cloudy skies.

The office further predicts a 1-3°C drop in temperature in the coming days.

With Gulmarg witnessing the coldest night of the season and snowfall beautifying the higher regions of Kashmir valley, locals and tourists are eagerly awaiting more wintry surprises in the days ahead.
