Two more lives were tragically claimed by wild elephants in Assam, bringing the death toll to 12 since November. The incident occurred on Friday evening near the India-Bhutan border in Tamulpur, lower Assam. A small herd of around six elephants trampled Ajoy Minse and Rajesh Tirky, both 30 years old and residents of Deosunga village in Baksa district. Forest department officials confirmed the incident on Saturday. This area has been plagued by human-elephant conflicts, with three previous fatalities occurring between May and October. The CEO of Assam Elephant Foundation, Kaushik Barua, highlighted the shrinking habitat as a major factor contributing to the conflict, stating that coexistence with elephants is challenging for villagers. Despite the frequency of these incidents, finding a solution that ensures the safety of both humans and elephants remains elusive.
