Anandam Hospital in Madhya Pradesh is facing scrutiny after a pregnant woman was given an expired saline bottle during treatment. The hospital has been at the center of controversy before, and this latest incident has resulted in the administration of the hospital offering to cover the woman’s expenses as a gesture of goodwill.
The woman, Somriya Jadhav, was admitted to the hospital in Sendhwa due to stomach pains. After testing, hospital management informed Jadhav’s family that she was pregnant with twins and needed immediate surgery to save her and her children’s lives. The hospital asked for a deposit of Rs 50k before performing the surgery, which resulted in stillborn babies and accusations of medical negligence.
Russel Senani, the district president of Adim Jati Janajati visited the hospital and found an expired saline bottle being administered to the pregnant woman in the ICU. The hospital denied the accusation, but the family insisted and demanded clarification.
After a panchnama was prepared, the hospital management claimed that no amount was taken from the woman and she was sent to Baroda at their own expense for further treatment.
The incident has resulted in renewed scrutiny of Anandam Hospital, which has faced similar complaints in the past. It is unclear whether any disciplinary action will be taken against the hospital or the doctor responsible for administering the expired saline bottle.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring that medical equipment and supplies are up-to-date and that hospitals are held accountable for their actions. The hospital’s response, offering to cover the woman’s expenses, is a positive step but more needs to be done to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
