The West Bengal Governor, C V Ananda, has created a “Peace Room” to deal with the numerous complaints of violence, murder and intimidation in the pre-polling stage. Complaints filed at the Peace Room will be taken up with authorities for prompt action, according to Bose. The room will act as a help desk, and grievances will be referred to the state government and the State Election Commissioner for necessary action.
However, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Santanu Sen criticized the Governor’s decision, questioning his authority in setting up the Peace Room. Sen also slammed the Governor’s move, saying that after the announcement of the elections, the law and order situations come under the Election Commission’s control. Moreover, Sen accused Ananda Bose of acting as a spokesperson and representative of the BJP. Despite objections, the Peace Room is expected to function and provide support to citizens who have suffered from violence and intimidation in the run-up to the polls.
