A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after a sex trafficking operation was uncovered by Henrico County police in major cities along the East Coast. Demontray Shadrell Bowman, 41, pleaded guilty to four counts of commercial sex trafficking among other charges and was sentenced to a total of 58 years in prison with 40 years suspended. Henrico police identified Bowman as the overseer of a widespread human trafficking operation that extended from New York to Florida, with stops in most major cities along the I-95 corridor. The investigation began in March 2022 when an adult woman expressed concern for her safety. Over the course of the investigation, police positively identified multiple victims and secured the cooperation of witnesses to testify against Bowman. He was arrested in April 2022 and extradited to Henrico to face 32 charges related to human trafficking. The Henrico County Police Division is determined to bring offenders to justice and ensure that survivors receive the necessary resources. Bowman’s attorney has not commented on the case.
