Jenson Button, the former Formula 1 world champion, has shocked the racing world by announcing his return to top-tier motorsport. The 43-year-old, who retired from Formula 1 in 2016, revealed his plans to compete in the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Button will join the Jota Porsche Hypercar team for the 2024 World Endurance Championship (WEC), marking his comeback for a full season at the age of 44.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Button shared, I’m thrilled to be racing in the 2024 World Endurance Championship. I’m already looking forward to the first race, but also know there’s a lot of work to be done so that we arrive prepared.
Prior to the WEC, Button will also participate in the Daytona 24 Hours race in Florida, driving the WTR Andretti Acura (Honda) GTP prototype towards the end of January. This showcases the extensive ambitions of the British driver during his return to racing.
During his illustrious Formula 1 career, Button competed in a remarkable 306 races over 18 years.
