WASHINGTON — Support for President Joe Biden among Black voters may be waning, as a recent survey reveals a decrease in his base ahead of the 2024 race for the White House. According to a GenForward survey released on Tuesday, if the presidential election were held today, 17% of Black voters said they would cast their ballot for former President Donald Trump. Another 20% stated they would vote for someone other than Trump or Biden, while 63% said they would support Biden.

The survey, conducted from November 8 to 20, included 3,448 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. It also indicated a division among Black voters on whether Biden should seek another term, with 50% saying he should definitely or probably run again, and 49% opposing the idea.

One of Biden’s potential liabilities heading into 2024 is his age, as demonstrated by the survey’s results. Among Black voters, 28% expressed being very concerned about Biden’s age, while 25% said they were somewhat concerned. Only 23% claimed to have no concerns at all.

This is not the first poll to highlight Biden’s weakening support among Black voters. A survey conducted by the New York Times/Siena College in October reported Trump obtaining 22% support from Black voters in six crucial battleground states. Similarly, a September Yahoo News/YouGov poll revealed that 66% of Black voters would have chosen Trump if the 2024 election were held that month.

The narrowing endorsement from Black voters is a significant development for Biden, as their support played a crucial role in his successful 2020 campaign. With the 2024 race gaining momentum, Biden will need to address these concerns and work towards regaining the confidence of this important voting bloc.

The GenForward survey serves as a reminder that political landscapes are ever-evolving, and candidate support is not guaranteed, as preferences change over time. The decisions made by politicians and their ability to engage different communities will continue to shape the future of American politics. Black voters, like all citizens, will ultimately determine the outcome of future elections based on their assessments of candidates’ policies, leadership qualities, and commitment to addressing their concerns.
