Delhi Lieutenant Governor has instructed the officials to plant flowering trees around Malcha Marg in the Central Ridge forest, according to an official statement on Saturday. LG Saxena directed them to start the five-layered plantation of various flowering trees facing Sardar Patel Marg to make a facelift of the area. Jacaranda, Gulmohar, Bougainvillea, Amaltas and Chinar trees are to be planted by August 15 near the 14th century monument- Malcha Mahal and its immediate vicinity.
Moreover, the LG suggested that the plantation should be done in a grid pattern to create a colourful area. LG Saxena also called for developing water bodies in natural depressions in the forest. “During his visit, Saxena was informed that agencies concerned will do the facelift of the forest area facing the Sardar Patel Marg which is the main road that is traversed by visitors and dignitaries coming to and going from the National Capital, from the IGI Airport,” stated the official release.
This is a move in the right direction, as planting trees will help to enhance the beauty of Delhi’s forests, which is spread over 3.5 hectares along the Sardar Patel Marg. This directive will act as a wake-up call to both officials and residents to be more careful about the depleting forest cover around Delhi. Further, growing trees will also help to curb pollution levels in the area and create a more refreshing atmosphere. The LG’s instructions have been initiated at the right time, and his decision will surely have a positive impact on Delhi’s environment.
