In a strategic move, Mayawati, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has declared her 28-year-old nephew, Akash Anand, as her successor, or Uttaradhikari, during a recent party meeting. As the BSP’s national coordinator, Akash has been actively involved in party affairs, particularly overseeing operations in Rajasthan since last year. With a background in politics and an impressive rise within the party, Akash Anand’s appointment holds significant implications for the BSP’s future.
Akash Anand, the son of Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar, entered the political arena at the age of 22 in 2017. He made his debut at a rally in Saharanpur alongside Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, and Ajit Singh. Holding an MBA degree from London, Akash quickly climbed the ranks, eventually becoming the BSP’s national coordinator in 2019.
Notably, Akash Anand showcased his political prowess during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when he managed Mayawati’s election campaign strategy. He also played a crucial role in the party’s social media campaign during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Akash’s involvement in the Mahagathbandhan, an anti-Congress and anti-BJP alliance led by Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati, was marked by his first political rally in Agra in 2019.
As the BSP’s national coordinator, Akash Anand has actively contributed to shaping the party’s strategies. His role as the party’s in-charge of the Rajasthan assembly polls and his contributions in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana further underline his growing influence within the BSP.
Under Akash Anand’s strategic leadership, the BSP made significant moves, particularly in Rajasthan, where he played a crucial part in the assembly polls. Earlier this year, he orchestrated the 14-day Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay Sankalp Yatra, signifying a shift in the BSP’s strategy.
Mayawati’s decision to announce Akash Anand as her heir positions him as the leader responsible for strengthening the BSP’s organization nationwide, excluding Uttar Pradesh, which Mayawati herself will continue to oversee. This succession plan places Akash Anand at the forefront of the party’s future endeavors.
With the appointment of a young and politically ambitious leader like Akash Anand, the BSP is looking to secure its position and expand its influence. His deep involvement in party affairs, notable achievements, and strategic initiatives make him a promising successor to Mayawati’s political legacy. As Mayawati continues to monitor Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Akash Anand’s role as Uttaradhikari holds the potential to shape the future of the BSP.
