An England boxing coach, Mick Driscoll, has been charged with sexual assault. The well-known coach, who has worked with some of the sport’s biggest names, faces three counts of sexual assault on a female. Last year, allegations were made to the Sheffield-based body, which led to an independent review and the subsequent sacking of a trainer. Police, who had earlier received complaints, reopened their investigation and have now confirmed the charges against Driscoll. The former lead performance coach was widely recognized in 2018 as the European Boxing Confederation’s coach of the year. He played a key role in England’s success at the Youth Olympic Games, where they won three gold medals and a bronze. Driscoll, who himself had a successful boxing career, narrowly missed out on competing in the 1988 Olympics. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 19, 2024.
