India’s economic growth linked to progress of entire world: PM Modi at Art Biennale inauguration

New Delhi [India], December 9 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the interconnectedness of India’s economic growth with the progress of the global community during his address at the inauguration of the Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB) 2023 held at Red Fort.
PM Modi highlighted the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India) and its potential to bring new opportunities. He spoke of India’s glorious past, where its economic prosperity was a topic of discussion worldwide, and how the country’s culture and heritage continue to attract tourists from around the world.

During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design’ at Red Fort, along with the student Biennale-Samunnati. He also launched a commemorative stamp and took a walkthrough of the exhibited works.

The Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB) aims to showcase the cultural space in Delhi, while the creation of cultural centers in five major cities – Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi – is deemed a historic step that will enrich these cities culturally. These centers will also contribute innovative ideas to enhance local art.

With seven important themes for the next seven days, PM Modi called for themes like ‘Deshaj Bharat Design: Indigenous Designs’ and ‘Samatva: Shaping the Built’ to be carried forward as a mission. He stressed the importance of integrating indigenous design into the youth’s study and research, as well as celebrating the participation of women in the field of architecture.

In his remarks regarding the inauguration of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design, PM Modi highlighted its role in promoting unique and rare crafts of India, while bringing artisans and designers together to innovate according to market demands. Furthermore, he expressed confidence in Indian craftsmen to make their mark on the world using modern knowledge and resources.

PM Modi spoke of the revival of India’s art and architecture, emphasizing its contribution to the nation’s cultural upliftment. He also mentioned the heritage of Yoga and Ayurveda, along with the new initiative of Mission LiFE for a sustainable lifestyle in alignment with India’s cultural values.

IAADB is viewed as a new step in the direction of institutionalizing global cultural initiatives in India. The Prime Minister announced plans to organize an International Museum Expo in May 2023 and a Festival of Libraries in August 2023, with the aim of creating a name for Indian cultural initiatives on a global scale.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Culture G Kishan Reddy, Union Ministers of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal and Meenakshi Lekhi, and Principal Architect at Diana Kellogg Architects Diana Kellogg, among others.

India’s economic growth and cultural initiatives, as showcased at the IAADB, are seen as crucial aspects of the nation’s progress, bringing new opportunities for both its citizens and the global community as a whole. The event symbolizes India’s commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange, establishing its place alongside international art biennales and cultural festivals worldwide.
