ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken steps to secure the arrest of former accountability czar Shahzad Akbar by approaching Interpol. Shahzad Akbar, who is currently in self-imposed exile in the United Kingdom (UK), has been declared a proclaimed offender by Civil Judge Ahmed Shehzad Gondal.

The FIA, following a request from Islamabad police, has written a letter to Interpol seeking their assistance in apprehending Shahzad Akbar, who faces charges of fraud and other serious offenses.

In response to the developments, advertisements featuring Shahzad Akbar and his co-accused Zulfi Bukhari, Zia-ul-Mustafa, and Farah Gogi have been released and posted within the judicial complex. These individuals are expected to appear in the accountability court on January 6, as announced in the advertisements.

The case in question involves a £190 million settlement, and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued arrest warrants for several individuals, including Shahzad Akbar and Zulfi Bukhari, who are aides to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The NAB has nominated a total of eight people in connection with the case.

The NAB chairman has directed the concerned officials to arrest the accused and produce them in court following the issuance of the warrants.

It is worth noting that Shahzad Akbar had recently claimed to have survived an acid attack in the UK. However, the current case against him is unrelated to this incident.

The request to Interpol for Shahzad Akbar’s arrest highlights the serious nature of the charges against him and the determination of authorities to ensure that justice is served. The accountability court proceedings on January 6 will provide an opportunity for the accused to present their side of the story in the presence of legal authorities.

As this case continues to unfold, both local and international attention will be focused on the outcome, given the significance of the individuals involved and the allegations against them. The implications of this case could extend beyond national borders, making it a matter of public interest.

The pursuit of justice and accountability remains a key priority for authorities, and the efforts to secure the arrest of Shahzad Akbar through Interpol demonstrate a firm commitment to upholding the rule of law.

As developments in this case emerge, further updates will be provided to keep the public informed about the progress and outcome of the legal proceedings.
