The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for the upcoming football season, and excitement is abound for Calvin Austin III and Luq Barcoo. The team is currently assessing all 90 players on its roster, evaluating their outlook for the 2023 season.
Austin, a fourth-round pick in the 2022 draft, missed his rookie season due to a foot injury. However, his dazzling performances at last year’s practice sessions suggest he has the potential to be a valuable addition to the team’s offense.
At 5’9” and 162 pounds, Austin’s diminutive size may have some questioning his ability to withstand the physical demands of professional football. Nevertheless, his lightning-fast speed is undeniable. Having been timed at 4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash, Austin has the potential to be a powerful weapon for the Steelers.
Barcoo, on the other hand, is a converted college-wide receiver with 4.4 speed. Playing for the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL, he had a standout performance on the field, recording 31 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and one sack during 10 spring games.
Since entering the league three years ago, Barcoo has been with six different NFL organizations. Despite this, his talent has not gone unnoticed, tying for the national lead in interceptions during his senior year at San Diego State. He faces an uphill battle to secure his position on the Steelers’ roster, which has recently added two cornerbacks through free agency and two more through the draft.
The Steelers’ coaching staff are excited to watch Austin and Barcoo in the upcoming preseason games. However, both players need to remain healthy in order to showcase their talents on the field.
As the Steelers’ preparation for the next football season continues, fans eagerly await the final roster announcement to see which players make the cut and take to the field.
