Big Brother Winner Shuns Housemate Following Exposure of Racist and Homophobic Tweets

Big Brother champion Jordan Sangha has seemingly distanced himself from his former ally Trish Balusa on Instagram in the aftermath of her startling Twitter controversy. Despite their camaraderie on the Channel 4 reality show, the 26-year-old lawyer, who is romantically involved with fellow housemate Henry Southan, does not follow the 33-year-old full-time mother on the picture-sharing platform.

In similar fashion, Trish also does not reciprocate the follow on Instagram, leading to speculation that a secret feud has emerged between the two. This separation comes hot on the heels of Trish facing backlash for past homophobic and racist tweets that were written approximately a decade ago. Subsequently, she publicly apologized and expressed her deep embarrassment over her previous remarks.

When confronted with the offensive comments she had made, Trish voiced her shock, stating, I thought, ‘no, I didn’t write that,’ but then I copied and pasted some of the tweets to see if it would come up on my Twitter, and when I realized it did, honestly, I was literally devastated. She continued, I can’t explain the embarrassment I felt. I can’t explain the embarrassment I still feel. I have been complicit in perpetuating views that are very hurtful for others. That are very oppressive towards others.

Reflecting on the impact of her past actions, Trish disclosed, It’s been shocking, but it’s been a mirror. It’s highlighted that as I teach people, I came from a place of being taught.

Examples of the tweets in question, which were captured through screenshots before her account was deactivated, include a post from March 13, 2012, which reads, There are Asian people everywhere, but why do the ones in Ilford/EastHam/Upton Park and Barking smell like this kmt (kiss my teeth). Shame on you. Another tweet, dated October 20, 2012, states, The smell of Pondu cooking is so strong, I hope I don’t leave my house smelling of it like Asian people smell of Curry at times.

Upon the resurfacing of these tweets, Trish promptly issued a lengthy apology, acknowledging the harm caused by perpetuating harmful stereotypes and expressing regret for the pain endured by marginalized communities and groups referenced in her previous remarks.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Big Brother assured that they are investigating why the offensive tweets were not identified during their pre-checks conducted by an independent supplier responsible for examining the digital footprint of potential housemates.

Last month, lawyer Jordan Sangha emerged as the victor of Big Brother’s revived series on ITV2. Dancer Olivia Young secured second place in the competition.

Both Jordan and Trish’s representatives have been contacted for comment by Metro.co.uk.
