The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction has upheld the life sentence for Mexhit Picari, who was found guilty of murdering his son-in-law, Kudret Saliaj. The court also sentenced Picari’s daughter, Dhurata Saliaj, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for her role in creating the conditions for the murder.

The tragic event occurred in June 2021 during the divorce proceedings between Dhurata and Kudret Saliaj. While waiting for a hearing at a bar near the Tirana court, Kudret Saliaj was shot and killed by his father-in-law, Mexhit Picari. The incident also resulted in injuries to the couple’s lawyer, Adriatik Cama.

The court dropped the charge of complicity in the murder for Dhurata Saliaj but found her guilty of contributing to the circumstances that led to the crime. The verdict of life imprisonment for Mexhit Picari reflects the severity of the crime committed.

Upon hearing the verdict, the families of both the victim and the accused expressed their emotions. Kudret Saliaj’s family welcomed the court’s decision, hoping that justice would be served for their loved one. On the other hand, Picari’s family was disappointed with the outcome, with some members expressing disbelief and stating their intention to explore further legal options.

The case garnered widespread attention due to its shocking nature and the involvement of a family member in the murder. The motive behind the crime remains unclear, as the court proceedings did not reveal any specific reasons for Mexhit Picari’s actions.

The court proceedings were closely followed by the public, as many were eager to see justice served in the tragic death of Kudret Saliaj. The verdict of a life sentence for Mexhit Picari demonstrates the seriousness of the crime and sends a strong message against any form of violence.

As the court’s decision stands, Mexhit Picari will spend the rest of his life behind bars, while Dhurata Saliaj will serve a 4-year and 6-month prison term. The families involved will now have to find a way to cope with the aftermath of the tragedy and attempt to move forward.

The case serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of unresolved conflicts within families and highlights the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means. The memory of Kudret Saliaj lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, as the court seeks to bring closure to this heartbreaking chapter in their lives.
