Google Bard’s biggest AI upgrade so far sees it close the gap on ChatGPT

Google Bard is set to receive a significant performance boost with the introduction of Gemini, the company’s most capable AI model. Despite recent reports suggesting that Gemini’s launch was delayed due to poor performance across multiple languages, Google has decided to release it earlier to compete with ChatGPT.

Gemini comes in three different sizes, but we will focus on the Pro and Ultra versions, as they directly impact Bard. The Pro version, according to Google, can handle a wide range of tasks and has been fine-tuned to enhance Bard’s capabilities. It allows the AI to better understand prompts, summarize content, plan tasks, and improve reasoning skills.

To showcase the upgraded Bard’s capabilities, Google invited scientific YouTuber Mark Rober to test it out. Rober asked the AI to generate the most accurate paper airplane, and Bard provided various designs and optimizations. This demonstration highlights how Bard can play a more significant role in the creative process.

Starting today, Bard with Gemini Pro is available in English across more than 170 countries. The full list of supported nations can be found on Google’s Help website. Although only text prompts are currently supported, Google plans to introduce other modalities soon. The company also intends to expand Bard’s availability to users in Europe and increase its language support.

In early 2023, Google plans to further upgrade Bard with its Gemini Ultra model. Designed specifically for highly complex tasks, this version will be able to process multimodal inputs such as text, video, and even code. Google claims that Ultra will think more carefully before answering challenging questions due to advanced reasoning abilities.

While the exact release date for the new Bard version remains unknown, Google will soon launch a tester program for a select group of users. It is advised to keep an eye out for updates from Google regarding the program’s availability and participation details.

Google’s efforts to enhance Bard’s capabilities reflect the company’s commitment to providing users with a powerful and versatile AI tool. As they continue to make advancements, Bard could become a strong competitor to ChatGPT, narrowing the gap between the two AI models.

Overall, this upgrade presents exciting possibilities for users looking to leverage Google’s AI technology. Whether it’s for creative endeavors, problem-solving, or complex tasks, Bard with Gemini shows promise in delivering robust AI capabilities to a global audience.
