LONDON, Dec 5 – The cast and makers of Netflix’s hit series The Crown gathered in London on Tuesday to celebrate the finale of the show’s sixth and final season. Created by Peter Morgan and first aired in 2016, the Emmy-winning drama chronicles the reign of Britain’s late Queen Elizabeth amidst various royal controversies.

Reflecting on the end of the show, Morgan expressed mixed emotions, stating, On the one hand it’s been a lot of work, so I’m tired. But on the other hand, it’s been a family that I’ve lived with now and worked with for 10 years. He also added, I’ve loved how the show has gone down around the world. So as an artist, you miss that.

The second part of the final season, consisting of six episodes, is set to release on December 14. The first four episodes, which premiered in November, focused on Princess Diana’s final days in 1997. The remaining episodes will explore the aftermath of her death, with actors Imelda Staunton and Dominic West reprising their roles as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, and newcomers Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy portraying Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Tragically, the cast and crew were confronted with a real-life loss during the filming process as Queen Elizabeth passed away in September 2022. Lesley Manville, who plays Princess Margaret, shared the impact of this loss, saying, Imelda and I were filming together on the day she passed, so very difficult. It affected us in the same way that it did the whole of the country.

Acknowledging the challenge of addressing the Queen’s passing within the show, Peter Morgan expressed his hopes for doing justice to her memory. He remarked, We had to incorporate into the show something that we never wanted to incorporate, which is at some level we had to address the issue of the Queen passing. The audience will be the judge of that, but I hope we’ve done her memory justice.

As Part Two of the final season unfolds, viewers can expect a focus on the younger generation, including William and Harry. Actor Dominic West commented, You see a lot of emphasis on William and Harry and the younger generation coming up so that the crown is seen as the next people who are going to wear it coming up. And that should be really interesting.

Olivia Williams, who portrays Camilla, urged viewers to prepare for an emotional journey, stating, Be prepared to cry. Bring the tissues.

The Crown has captivated audiences worldwide with its gripping portrayal of the British monarchy. As the series comes to an end, fans are eager to see how the final episodes unfold, exploring the impact of Princess Diana’s death and the future of the royal family. The curtain may be closing on this era of The Crown, but its legacy will undoubtedly endure.
