A Florida Man Arrested for Assault and Robbery After Altercation Over Loud Music

OXFORD, Fla. – A Florida man has been taken into custody by deputies after reportedly punching another man in the face and stealing his phone following an argument over loud music. Eduardo Sanchez Ruiz, 36, is facing charges of robbery, larceny, and battery that occurred in Sumter County over the weekend. According to an arrest affidavit from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was sitting at the kitchen counter listening to music from his phone when Sanchez Ruiz allegedly attacked him, causing significant injuries. The suspect also made off with $5,000 in cash during the incident.

The authorities were alerted to the robbery by the victim at a Wawa gas station in Oxford, prompting their swift response. The victim, who was nursing a swollen right eye and facial abrasions, recounted the incident to the deputies. He stated that he had been peacefully enjoying some music through a speaker when Sanchez Ruiz suddenly assaulted him. The forceful attack resulted in the victim losing both his phone and his money.

Deputies were able to locate Sanchez Ruiz asleep in the backseat of a parked truck at the residence. During a pat down, they discovered the victim’s phone in his pocket, solidifying his connection to the crime. Although key details about the altercation were redacted in the affidavit, it is apparent that the argument revolved around the volume of the music being played. A witness overheard the two individuals engaging in a heated exchange regarding the loudness of the music, which ultimately escalated into physical violence.

The exact nature of the relationship between the victim and Sanchez Ruiz remains unclear, but deputies described it as a domestic situation. The suspect was deemed the aggressor in the incident, leading to his subsequent arrest. Currently, Sanchez Ruiz is being held at the Sumter County Detention Center on a $4,000 bond.
