A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader’s husband has been murdered in West Bengal’s Malda district, resulting in the arrest of a male suspect. 48-year-old Abdul Mannan is currently being investigated by Malda police. The victim, Mustafa Sheikh, was allegedly killed in broad daylight by Congress supporters, according to TMC claims. However, the opposition party denies the claims, stating instead that the murder was the result of infighting within the TMC. Sabina Yeasmin, a cabinet minister for Malda district, visited the site and has called for immediate arrests. This is the seventh killing linked to poll-related violence since the announcement of election dates last month. The polls are scheduled for 8 July and votes will be counted on 11 July. The State Election Commission is currently investigating the situation in Malda.
