Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently inaugurated 55 bridges virtually, which were constructed in the hilly areas of the state. The bridges were built with the help of the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO) and the ICICI Foundation. These bridges are expected to benefit thousands of people living in remote areas.
Chief Minister Dhami said that Uttarakhand is a state with odd geographical conditions and is sensitive to natural disasters, particularly during the monsoon season. The construction of these bridges will greatly help the local people and reduce the distance between many villages. HESCO and the ICICI Foundation have taken a commendable initiative in association with the government to provide better transportation facilities to the people in the hilly areas.
Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Ajay Kumar Sood commented that these bridges built in remote hilly districts would make life easier for the general public there and such initiatives in hilly areas should be continuous. HESCO’s founder, Anil Prakash Joshi, said that most communication issues arise in remote villages during calamities, and the organization aims to cooperate with the government to provide relief to people in such areas.
Chief Operating Officer of ICICI Foundation, Anuj Aggarwal, said that the Foundation has constructed these bridges with the aim to provide better transportation facilities to the people living in the hilly areas of the state. They further plan to provide cooperation and help so that people in hilly areas can get better facilities. The Foundation is also working to promote rainwater harvesting and making efforts towards social concerns and public interest.
