Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 3: Issy Wong’s exceptional performance led England A Women to a 2-1 victory over India A Women in the three-match T20I series. The English side emerged triumphant with a thrilling two-wicket win over the ‘Women in Blue’ in the final game held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
Winning the toss, Minnu Mani’s India A Women opted to bat first but struggled to make an impact in the first inning. Uma Chetry (21 runs from 16 balls) and Disha Kasat (20 runs from 25 balls) stood out as the notable scorers for the ‘Women in Blue’.
On the other hand, Issy Wong, Kirstie Gordon, Mady Villiers, and Lauren Filer showcased their bowling prowess by scalping two wickets each, restricting India A Women to a total of 101 runs.
In their run chase, England A Women skipper Hollie Armitage (27 runs from 28 balls) set the tone for the inning. Following Armitage’s dismissal, Wong (28 runs from 30 balls) and Kirstie Gordon (10 runs from 9 balls) guided the English side to victory, ensuring their series win.
Shreyanka Patil and Minnu Mani led the bowling attack for India A Women, both claiming two wickets in their spells. However, their efforts fell short as they failed to defend the target. Monica Patel, Mannat Kashyap, and Bareddy Anusha contributed with one wicket each in their respective spells.
Issy Wong’s outstanding performance earned her the well-deserved title of ‘Player of the Match’ in the thrilling third T20I encounter.
With this defeat, India A Women conceded the series to England A Women by 2-1. Despite clinching a victory in the first game, the ‘Women in Blue’ couldn’t maintain their momentum and suffered two consecutive losses.
