The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has raised serious concerns over the transfer of seven employees from the Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Imphal. The union has demanded clarification from the Dean of CAU, Kyrdemkulai, Professor Dwipendra Thakuria on the matter.
Last week, the seven employees were transferred, prompting the KSU to raise the issue. Prof. Thakuria said that the employees were on a three-month contract and would return to Imphal when their tenure ends, assuring that positions reserved for local candidates would remain vacant for them.
The Dean has also clarified that the transfer of employees from Manipur was due to the prevailing situation there, and they would not occupy positions meant for local staff members. However, the education secretary of KSU North Khasi Hills Unit, Banjop Maring, asked if the transferred employees would be accompanied by their families. The Dean replied in the negative.
Another issue raised by Maring was regarding the eight vacant positions advertised in 2019. He expressed concern that positions meant for local candidates might be given to the seven employees transferred from Manipur. However, the Dean assured that interviews would be conducted for the vacant positions and that the delayed process was due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The KSU acknowledged the Dean’s assurances and expressed hopes that the vacant positions would be filled by deserving local candidates. The transfer of central staff to other regions has become a growing concern for various organisations, especially in times of pandemic-induced distress.
Overall, the KSU has stressed the need for transparency and accountability in employee transfers, particularly when they involve positions reserved for local candidates. As the situation remains uncertain, it is hoped that all valid concerns will be addressed promptly for the benefit of all concerned parties.
