Visa Flags Naira Marley’s Credit Card For Internet Fraud

In the ongoing trial of Nigerian singer Naira Marley, a representative from Visa has revealed how the company flagged one of the credit card details on the singer’s device due to fraudulent transactions. The testimony was given by Dein Whyte, an investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Naira Marley, also known as Azeez Adesina Fashola, is facing 11-count charges related to conspiracy and credit card fraud. Whyte, the 10th prosecution witness, stated that forensic analysis of the singer’s device uncovered malicious programs used to unlawfully obtain credit card information for non-present transactions. Additionally, tools designed to disguise the user’s location when connected to the internet were also found.

Further investigation revealed that the defendant had accessed websites where illegally traded credit card information was available. The phone and laptop seized from Naira Marley were registered under his name and email address. When questioned about the credit card details, Whyte disclosed that the defendant had exchanged them with other individuals.

The case has been adjourned to March 6 and 7, 2024, for further proceedings. This development comes after Naira Marley’s recent release from police custody, alongside fellow artist Sam Larry. The release is connected to the ongoing investigation into the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

As the trial unfolds, Naira Marley’s connection to fraudulent transactions involving credit card details has come to light. The prosecution’s witness, Dein Whyte, provided crucial information about the malicious programs found on the singer’s device and the websites accessed for illegal credit card trading. The court will reconvene next year to continue the trial and shed further light on the case.
