Over 70 students at a meritorious school in Sangrur district have fallen ill after consuming a contaminated meal at the hostel mess. The students were subsequently hospitalized, prompting the district administration to form a four-member probe team to investigate the incident. The contractor and mess manager of the school have been booked and arrested on charges of attempted murder. The contract of the school mess vendor has been canceled, and food samples have been collected for further investigation. Health authorities reported that 18 students were initially brought to the civil hospital with symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting, and food poisoning. However, 14 of them were discharged later, and four are currently under observation. Additional cases of food poisoning were reported on Saturday, with approximately 36 students seeking medical attention, although their conditions are said to be stable now. The priority is now to address the health and well-being of the affected students and to take appropriate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
