The quarter-mile stretch of road in downtown Detroit draws power from buried copper coils, thanks to a collaboration between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Israeli tech giant, Electreon. The ultimate plan is to implement a one-mile stretch of chartable road in 2025.
Although similar projects are underway in various countries, including Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, China, and Israel, this innovative technology is still in its early stages. For EVs to benefit from the charging capabilities, they require a specialized receiver fitted to the underside of the vehicle.
