A massive U.S. Navy intelligence aircraft remains stuck on a reef in a Hawaii Bay after overshooting a runway at a Marine base and crashing into the ocean last week. The underwater footage released by the U.S. Navy revealed that the plane’s tires are lodged in the coral as fish navigate through rock fissures. The incident occurred on October 20 when the U.S. Navy P-8A plane missed its mark while attempting to land at a U.S. Marines base, located ten miles from Honolulu. All nine people on board were able to swim back to shore safely. While the crash damaged some coral, it has caused limited harm to the area, which is considered a critical ecosystem and a cherished part of the local community, according to Rear Adm. Kevin Lenox. The Navy is currently investigating the cause of the crash and developing a plan to remove the aircraft.
