Police Intensify Combating and Patrolling Efforts in Bareilly Following a Series of Women Murders
In response to a string of alarming murders targeting women in Bareilly, police officials have announced intensified combing operations in local jungles and patrols on boats. So far, seven murders have been reported from different villages within the Shahi police station limits, with the most recent incident occurring in a village under Sheeshgarh police station limits on November 26. The victims were predominantly strangled to death with a saree or a stole, often when they were alone in farming fields or jungle areas during the daytime.
The police, facing the challenge of identifying the suspects without any eyewitnesses, have divided their forces into teams tasked with conducting thorough searches of the entire region where the murders were reported. ASP (crime) Mukesh Pratap Singh emphasized the importance of identifying the culprits and assured the public that they are employing various strategies to track them down. One such strategy involves combing the jungle areas while crosschecking suspicious individuals. Additionally, another group of officers is patrolling the banks of the nearby River Ram Ganga, as many of the incidents occurred within a two-kilometer radius of its waters. The police are examining the credentials of individuals residing alongside the river banks.
ASP Singh further explained that it remains unclear whether these murders are connected or the work of a single perpetrator or multiple individuals. However, residents speculate the involvement of a psychopath in the region. Out of eight reported cases, three have been solved thus far, resulting in the arrest of three different individuals. However, the police continue to deploy their teams to crack the remaining cases.
As a precautionary measure, villagers have been advised to prevent women from going out alone and to encourage them to move in groups of three or four when necessary. This advisory will remain in effect until the police reach a conclusion regarding these incidents.
The police vigilance has been substantially heightened since the visit of Bareilly Zone ADG PC Meena and IG (Range) Rakesh Singh to the affected areas on Monday. During their visit, the officials directed their subordinates to promptly resolve the cases. They urged officials to conduct a crime mapping exercise and analyze the crime pattern to apprehend the assailants.
The recent series of women murders has sparked concern and fear among the residents of Bareilly. As investigations continue, the police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of safety in the community. The efforts being made by the authorities, coupled with the cooperation of villagers and the formation of informant networks, provide hope that the individuals responsible for these heinous acts will be swiftly identified and arrested.
