Bangladesh has announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, scheduled to be played from July 5. The three-match series will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Bangladesh.
Tamim Iqbal, the veteran opener, will lead the team in the series. The selection committee has decided to bring back Mohammad Naim and Afif Hossain to the team following their impressive performances in the Dhaka Premier League last month. Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed has also been included in the squad after being sidelined due to an injury. He made a successful return in the recently concluded Test series, where he took four wickets in the final innings.
BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin explained the selection choices, stating that the domestic performances of Naim and Hossain earned them spots back in the team. Youngster Mrittunjoy Chowdhury could not retain his place due to Taskin’s return, while the selector stated that Rony Talukdar is being considered for the T20I format. Abedin also said that Yasir Ali was not being considered for the ODIs at the moment.
The Bangladeshi team is looking to maintain their momentum after a comprehensive 546-run victory over Afghanistan in their one-off Test match. The team is preparing for the Asia Cup 2023 and will want to come up with a dominant performance in the ODI series against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh ODI squad includes Tamim Iqbal (c), Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Afif Hossain and Mohammad Naim. The Bangladeshi side will be hoping to perform to their best and secure a win against the Afghan team.
