Matty Crowned Winner of The Great British Bake Off with Showstopping Celebration Cake
Matty, a PE and science teacher from Cambridgeshire, has emerged victorious as the winner of the 14th series of The Great British Bake Off. In the highly anticipated final episode aired on Tuesday, Matty showcased his baking prowess alongside fellow finalists Josh and Dan, creating their final bakes, including a choux pastry signature, a sticky technical challenge, and a showstopping celebration cake.
The announcement of Matty’s win came as a surprise to the 28-year-old, who described himself as an underdog. Expressing his disbelief, Matty said, I never thought I would be on the show, let alone win it!
Fellow baker Josh, a post-doctoral research associate from Leicestershire, congratulated Matty, saying, I am so chuffed for Matty – when it comes to cake, he has been fantastic. He is such a worthy winner and a lovely chap as well. Dan, a civil engineering resource planner from Cheshire, also praised Matty, saying, I had a feeling that Matty was going to win. What a kid, I absolutely love him.
The judges, Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, commended Matty for his journey throughout the competition. Praising his cheerful and willing nature, Dame Prue said, I have never met a more cheerful, smiling, uncomplaining, and willing baker. Paul added, Matty got better and better and better. That chocolate cake was one of the best chocolate cakes I have had for a long, long time.
Celebrating his victory at home with his fiancee Lara and loved ones, Matty shared, It was a lovely evening. We had some bubbles to celebrate, and needless to say, I made some bakes. As for the iconic Bake Off trophy, Matty revealed that he has kept it hidden away in a box in the loft but plans to showcase it proudly in the dining room for everyone to see.
