West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose summoned State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rajiva Sinha to Raj Bhawan on Saturday to discuss the violence that has erupted in the state during the ongoing panchayat polls. However, Sinha was unable to meet with the governor due to his duties in overseeing the panchayat polls, according to an official. Sinha requested to be exempted from the meeting and offered to meet with Bose on another date. The governor had recently visited Bhangore and called for an end to political violence, promising to persecute perpetrators who engaged in such acts. Over 5 crore voters are eligible to vote in the panchayat elections, which will determine nearly 74,000 candidates in zilla parishads, panchayat samitis and gram panchayats.
