Singapore’s High Court has ruled that Lee Hsien Yang, the younger brother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, must pay damages to two Indian-origin ministers over defamatory allegations made on a social media platform. The case centers around Yang’s claims that Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan rented state-owned bungalows. The ministers initiated defamation suits against Yang, who failed to respond, leading to the default judgment in their favor. The amount of damages will be determined in a subsequent hearing. The judge also issued an injunction preventing Yang from further disseminating false and defamatory statements. The case followed a Facebook post by Shanmugam in which he revealed that Yang accused him and Balakrishnan of corrupt practices and personal gain. Investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing or preferential treatment.
