Nov. 27 — The Office of Inspector General is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Sunday at a hotel in New London. The names of the officers involved and the man who was shot have not been released, and it is unclear whether the man survived the incident. New London Police Capt. Matthew Galante referred all inquiries to the Office of Inspector General, while Alaine Griffin, director of communications for the Division of Criminal Justice’s Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, stated that more information would be provided in the near future.
According to a brief statement from the New London police, officers were called to America’s Best Value Inn on Bayonet St. at 1:52 p.m. on Sunday in response to a shooting. The investigation led them to the nearby Clarion Inn on North Frontage Road, where a man was discovered in a hotel room and a shooting occurred.
The man who was shot was initially transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. The Office of Inspector General, which was established in 2021, is responsible for investigating police-involved shootings and prosecuting cases where an officer’s use of force is deemed unjustifiable. Former Superior Court Judge Robert J. Devlin currently serves as the state’s first inspector general.
The inspector general’s initial report, expected to be released later this week, will include a summary of the events that led to the shooting as well as body camera footage from the officers present at the scene. These details will provide further insight into the incident and aid in the investigation.
As the investigation continues, the public awaits further information from the Office of Inspector General. The circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting remain unclear, leaving many questions unanswered. The release of the inspector general’s report will shed more light on the incident and help determine the course of action moving forward.
