New Delhi, November 27 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light-intensity rain over certain areas of Delhi and its adjoining regions today. This forecast comes as a relief to the residents of Delhi as it is expected to contribute towards improving the air quality in the city.

The areas where the IMD has predicted rain today include Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Kashmiri Gate, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Patel Nagar, Red Fort, Preet Vihar, Budha Jayanti Park, President House, and ITO.

Explaining the weather conditions, IMD Senior Scientist RK Jenamani stated, The weather in the national capital Delhi is currently cloudy and this will continue for the next 12-18 hours. The weather will be clear from tomorrow and the temperature is expected to fall by 2 to 3 degrees at night. Fog will increase in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab from November 28.

Jenamani further added that the moisture it was picking from the Arabian Sea was decreasing and the clouds were moving towards Uttar Pradesh and central India. He also mentioned that heavy rainfall was experienced in Gujarat, northern Maharashtra, and parts of Madhya Pradesh and southern Rajasthan over the last 36 hours, and orders for thunderstorms and hailstorms have been issued for Uttarakhand and Himachal, as well as Vidarbha and east Madhya Pradesh.

However, the western disturbance causing these weather patterns is expected to weaken by tomorrow morning.

On a tragic note, unseasonal rainfall in Gujarat over the weekend has claimed the lives of at least 24 people and 71 animals, according to an official from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

As Delhi prepares for light rain, it remains hopeful that the precipitation will not only bring relief to its residents but also play a positive role in improving the city’s air quality.
