A reveller was left bewildered after being charged an exorbitant amount for two cocktails at Manchester’s upscale celebrity hotspot, Sexy Fish. The customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, ordered two Negronis at the trendy bar, expecting to pay the listed price of £9.25 each. However, when the bill arrived, he was shocked to find that he was being charged £28 for the two drinks.
Perplexed by the discrepancy, the customer immediately questioned the staff, who initially struggled to provide an explanation. Eventually, it was revealed that the drinks were made with a gin upgrade, unbeknownst to the customer.
Sexy Fish later admitted that there had been a till error and clarified that the drink was made with Plymouth Gin, which is considered an upgrade from their standard Negroni. The bar confirmed that the error had been rectified, and the customer was charged the correct amount.
Expressing his frustration, the customer said, I couldn’t work it out because since when does 2 x £9.25 equal £28? To me, that just felt a bit sneaky. He questioned the need to charge extra for Plymouth Gin, considering it is not a premium product.
In response, a spokesperson for Sexy Fish stated, The receipt was unfortunately not displayed correctly due to a till error, but the guest was charged the correct amount. The guest was immediately notified about the error at the time of purchase. They added that the customer paid without issue and appeared satisfied with the drinks.
A classic Negroni typically consists of equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, garnished with an orange slice. Plymouth Gin, a popular brand in the UK, is priced at £20 for a 70cl bottle.
Sexy Fish, known for its celebrity following, recently opened its lavish restaurant and bar in Manchester’s Spinningfields. The venue features stunning oceanic-inspired sculptures and artworks by Damien Hirst and Frank Gehry, along with a magnificent cascading waterfall complementing the giant glowing pink onyx bar.
Despite the initial confusion and frustration, the customer’s overall experience at Sexy Fish appears to have been resolved satisfactorily.
