City of Compton Renames Street to Honor Legendary Rapper Eazy-E
The City of Compton paid tribute to the late rapper Eazy-E by renaming a section of Auto Drive South in his honor. The 100 block of the street will now be known as Eazy Street, recognizing the immense contribution of the iconic artist. Eazy-E, born Eric Wright, was a prominent member of the influential hip-hop group NWA, alongside Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Arabian Prince. He also achieved great success as the founder and owner of Ruthless Records, as well as a solo artist. The rapper tragically passed away in 1995 at the age of 30 due to complications from AIDS-induced pneumonia.
The newly renamed Eazy Street connects with Alameda Street and leads into the Gateway Towne Center shopping plaza. Alonzo Williams, president of the Compton Entertainment Chamber of Commerce, played a significant role in spearheading the renaming.
