Wife Convicted on 52 Counts of Voter Fraud in Iowa Primary and General Elections
A federal jury in Sioux City, Iowa, has convicted Kim Phuong Taylor, the wife of a former congressional candidate, on 52 counts of voter fraud. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the verdict today, stating that Taylor executed a voter fraud scheme during the Iowa 2020 primary and general elections.
Taylor’s husband, who ran for Congress but lost in the GOP primary last year, aimed to claim the seat previously held by former Rep. Steve King (R-IA). However, according to court documents and evidence presented during the trial, Taylor engaged in a fraudulent scheme to generate votes for her husband in the primary election for Iowa’s 4th U.S. Congressional District in June 2020.
Even after her husband’s unsuccessful primary bid, Taylor continued her illicit activities during the general election for Woodbury County Supervisor. She was responsible for fraudulently requesting and casting absentee ballots, exploiting false information and the unauthorized signing of voter forms.
Following the trial, the jury convicted Taylor on multiple charges, including providing false information in registering and voting, fraudulent registration, and fraudulent voting, amounting to a total of 52 counts. Each count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, and a sentencing date will be set once a presentence report is prepared. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge, who will consider various factors, including the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process. Voter fraud undermines the principles of democracy and the overall trust in the electoral system. The U.S. Department of Justice remains committed to investigating and prosecuting such offenses to preserve the sanctity of elections.
The verdict against Taylor serves as a significant outcome in the fight against voter fraud, highlighting the consequences individuals face for attempting to manipulate election results. The conviction sends a clear message that voter fraud will not be tolerated, and those involved will be held accountable for their actions.
As the country continues to grapple with the issue of voter fraud, it is imperative for citizens, officials, and lawmakers to remain vigilant in safeguarding the democratic process. The fairness and accuracy of elections are at the core of our democratic principles, and any attempt to subvert these ideals must be met with the full force of the law.
