Baldwin Humane Society Receives Donations to Help Shelter Animals During the Holiday Season
FAIRHOPE, Ala. – In a heartwarming act of generosity, young scouts on the Eastern Shore have built and delivered ten new dog and cat beds to the Baldwin Humane Society. Brody Gwaltney and his friends dedicated over 180 hours to this Scouts’ project, creating unique beds using repurposed tires, vibrant paint, and spring tops.
Gwaltney expressed his excitement about the project, saying, We had so much fun working together. The best days were spent at my house, assembling everything. I remember painting with my friends using a giant paint gun, patiently waiting for it to fill up, and then going wild, spraying everything. It was a blast!
The timing of these donations couldn’t be better for the Baldwin Humane Society, as this holiday season often sees a decline in contributions to the no-kill rescue organization. Executive Director Abby Pruet explained that non-profits have been hit hard in recent years, and animal welfare organizations are usually among the last to receive donations. Pruet added, We’re anticipating a decrease in donations this season, which makes contributions like these beds even more precious.
The Baldwin Humane Society is taking in a larger number of animals, making donations of food, toys, and blankets crucial for their care. Pruet acknowledged that many people facing financial constraints have had to surrender their pets, leading to a decrease in adoptions. Financially, people aren’t in their usual position to adopt, and it saddens us when owners have to give up their beloved pets, she said.
Thanks to Brody and his friends, the Baldwin Humane Society now has enough beds to accommodate their current needs. However, they still require ongoing support from the community. If you are looking to help, consider donating whatever you can. And if you’re thinking about adopting, Pruet advises considering the responsibilities involved, saying, Owning a pet is a significant commitment that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
The positive impact Brody and his fellow scouts have made highlights the importance of community support, especially during the holiday season. As the no-kill rescue organization faces challenges, the generosity of individuals and groups can make a difference in the lives of shelter animals.
The Baldwin Humane Society encourages anyone who is able to contribute to their cause, whether through donations or adoption. Despite the hardships faced by many, their mission to provide a safe and loving environment for animals remains steadfast. By coming together, we can ensure that these animals receive the care and attention they deserve during the holiday season and beyond.
