GMDA to Install Smart Traffic Signals at 29 Locations Worth Rs 6.49 Cr

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has announced plans to install smart traffic signals, complete with pedestrian signal lights, at 29 locations in Sectors 58 to 115. The project is estimated to cost Rs 6.49 crore and aims to enhance traffic management and improve the ease of commute for citizens.

According to a survey conducted by GMDA’s Mobility Division, these sectors have identified 29 junctions where the installation of smart traffic signals is urgently required. The smart traffic lights will be equipped with Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS), which will facilitate better traffic regulation and minimize congestion on signalized intersections.

Using this innovative technology, the timing of traffic signals will automatically adjust in response to the volume of traffic on each side. Sensors in the signals will accurately measure the flow of traffic from different directions and increase the duration of green lights accordingly. This will ensure a smooth flow of traffic and ease traffic congestion on the road.

These smart traffic signals will also operate using real-time data provided by Google Maps. In addition, they will help establish green corridors to prioritize the movement of emergency vehicles. By connecting these signals to the Integrated Command and Control Centre of GMDA, traffic flow can be monitored comprehensively.

R.D. Singhal, General Manager (Mobility) of GMDA, said, GMDA is already in the process of revamping the existing traffic signals in the city, with 111 signals being upgraded to smart signals in Sectors 1 to 55. Furthermore, 29 locations in the newly-developed Sectors 58 to 115 have been identified for the installation of smart traffic signals, ensuring improved traffic management and pedestrian movement in these areas.

As a responsible news agency, we understand the importance of keeping our audience well-informed. With that in mind, we will continue to provide updates on this crucial project. Stay tuned for further developments as GMDA implements smart traffic signals across Gurugram’s key sectors.
