79-Year-Old Chairman of Irish Medicines Board Dies in Tragic Fall on Croagh Patrick, Ireland

A 79-year-old man tragically lost his life after falling on Croagh Patrick, a mountain in County Mayo, Ireland. Pat O’Mahony, a highly respected figure who served as the Chairman of the Irish Medicines Board for over a decade, succumbed to his injuries at Mayo University Hospital.
The incident occurred on Friday when Mr. O’Mahony fell during unfavorable weather conditions on the mountain. He was immediately airlifted to Mayo University Hospital on a rescue helicopter but, unfortunately, succumbed to his head injuries on Sunday.
Pat O’Mahony, a company director residing at The Harbour Mill complex in Westport, was renowned for his remarkable career. He had served as a senior adviser to the Commission of Inquiry (Banking Sector) Ireland from 2010 to 2011. Moreover, he chaired the Irish Medicines Board for an impressive 14-year tenure from 1996 to 2010.
In recent years, efforts have been underway to improve the paths on Croagh Patrick. This initiative aims to reduce injuries and protect the surrounding environment, which have suffered due to climbers attempting to avoid treacherous scree.
