Marjorie Taylor Greene Deletes Jan 6 Conspiracy Tweet, Calls for Investigations and Accountability

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican Congresswoman from Georgia, has deleted a tweet promoting a conspiracy theory related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. In her original tweet, Greene claimed that a rioter holding a vape was actually an undercover law enforcement officer with an FBI badge. However, she later removed this line and the image attached to it.

Greene called for investigations and accountability in her tweet, stating that the release of tapes related to the riots was not enough. She called for a January 6th Select Committee to be created and for all relevant parties, including Nancy Pelosi, the FBI, the Department of Justice, DC Police, Capitol Police, and Jan 6 witnesses who lied, to be subpoenaed. Greene also emphasized the need for criminal referrals and prosecutions under a Trump Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, newly elected House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana expressed his intention to release all 44,000 hours of Jan. 6 footage to the public. As a first step, 90 hours of footage were released to the House Administration Committee’s website.

The conspiracy theory shared by Greene was also echoed by Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah. He posted on social media, suggesting that a rioter holding a vape could be an FBI officer flashing a badge. The claim was debunked, with fact-checking verifying that the person in question was not an undercover officer but a convicted rioter named Kevin Lyons.

Lyons, a father from Chicago, was captured on video holding a vape, not a badge, during the Capitol assault. He was subsequently sentenced to over four years in prison for his involvement in the riots. Despite efforts by some MAGA Republicans, including Greene, to recast the riots as a patriotic event, over 1,000 people have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 events.

The incidents at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, continue to be a subject of scrutiny and investigations. The conversation around the events remains heated, with differing perspectives and theories emerging. As the call for accountability and further investigations grows, it remains to be seen how the aftermath of the riots will unfold.

While Marjorie Taylor Greene has deleted her Jan 6 conspiracy tweet, the impact and fallout from that fateful day continue to reverberate throughout the political landscape. As investigations progress and the search for accountability intensifies, the true extent of the events and their ramifications is gradually coming to light.
