Motorcyclist Suffers Critical Injuries in Queens Hit-and-Run Incident

A motorcyclist was left in critical condition after being involved in a hit-and-run incident in Queens over the weekend. The shocking incident, which occurred at the intersection of 29th Street and Broadway in Astoria, was captured on surveillance cameras.

The footage shows the driver of a vehicle colliding with the motorcyclist, causing him and his bike to slide into a nearby fruit stand. Witnessing the accident, concerned onlookers rushed to the scene to render aid until emergency services arrived. Swiftly, the injured motorcyclist was transported to Elmhurst Hospital.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collision, which remains uncertain at this time. Astoria resident Hussein Salah expressed his frustration, saying, They bring the ambulance, I think, and they go. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene and has not been located yet.

According to recent statistics from the New York Police Department (NYPD), accidents involving pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists have seen an increase since November of last year. Unfortunately, this hit-and-run incident marks the fourth such occurrence in New York City just this week, highlighting a concerning trend.

Only days ago, 72-year-old Ann-Marie Wiesner lost her life after being hit in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The driver responsible for the tragedy callously continued driving, leaving the beloved grandmother behind. Another hit-and-run incident occurred in Elmhurst, Queens, where 43-year-old Mauro Chimbay was fatally struck while attempting to thwart a robbery. Tragically, the driver in this case remains at large as well. Additionally, on Monday, 46-year-old Mohammed Hossain was struck and killed in Brooklyn, with both drivers involved fleeing the scene.

The motorcyclist injured on Saturday night remains in critical condition, underscoring the urgent need to address hit-and-run incidents in the city. The NYPD is actively investigating these recent cases and calling on the public for any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the drivers involved.

As pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists face increased risks on the busy streets of New York, it is crucial to prioritize road safety and hold accountable those who disregard the well-being of others.
