Benton Harbor Investigation: Burglary and Kidnapping Thwarted, Firearms Seized
In a dramatic turn of events, law enforcement in Benton Harbor, Michigan successfully foiled an alleged burglary and kidnapping, resulting in two arrests and the recovery of multiple firearms. The incident unfolded on November 17th when officers from the Benton Township Police Department were called to Dunham’s Sports store on E. Napier Ave. for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, they discovered that the suspects had disabled the security system and stolen several firearms from the store.
A joint investigation involving detectives from multiple agencies was launched to unravel the details of the crime. Astonishingly, it was revealed that one of the store managers had been kidnapped at gunpoint by two assailants. The victim was forcibly taken from the premises and held hostage.
Following the kidnapping, one of the suspects returned to the store after hours, carrying two large coolers. Making their way to the firearms section, the perpetrator brazenly stole a significant number of pistols from the display cases, transferring them to the coolers, before fleeing the scene.
Fortunately, the victim was eventually released unharmed and immediately contacted emergency services. With this vital information, investigators swiftly identified two suspects and began monitoring their movements. Their efforts paid off when they spotted the two coolers in the trunk of one of the suspect’s cars. The suspects were then witnessed carrying the coolers into a residence in Benton Township.
Taking immediate action, law enforcement executed multiple search warrants at various locations within Benton Township. This resulted in the successful apprehension of the two suspects, and the recovery of all the stolen pistols, with the exception of one.
To shed further light on this significant development, the Benton Township Police Department will be hosting a joint news conference on November 20th at 3 p.m. at 1725 Territorial Road in Benton Harbor.
