Meghalaya vs Mizoram: Rain disrupts Cooch Behar Trophy match

Only six overs of play were possible on the second day of the Cooch Behar Trophy match between Meghalaya and Mizoram at the MCA Ground. The BCCI multi-day tournament for U-19 men was heavily affected by persistent rain, causing a complete washout on the previous day.

Despite a delayed start due to a wet outfield, the players were greeted with clear and sunny skies this morning. However, the ground staff’s best efforts to dry the outfield took a long time, and the conditions worsened when overcast skies appeared in the afternoon.

After patiently waiting for the action to commence, the umpires finally announced that play could begin, much to the delight of the young cricketers. Meghalaya won the toss and elected to field first, hoping to capitalize on the cloudy skies and brisk wind to support their pace bowlers.

Angkit Tamang, bowling from the tennis court end, bowled three maiden overs, while Banialam Mylliemngap, operating from the pavilion end, took the only wicket to fall. Mizoram’s Marcus was dismissed for just 2 runs, caught behind by wicketkeeper Dipankar Barua. At the end of the truncated day’s play, Mizoram stood at 4/1 after six overs.

Considering the challenging batting conditions, Mizoram can be content with their performance despite losing an early wicket. With two more days remaining in the match and favorable weather expected, both teams still have a fair chance of securing victory.

In conclusion, the Cooch Behar Trophy match between Meghalaya and Mizoram experienced significant disruption due to rain, allowing only six overs of play on the second day. Mizoram, at 4/1, will be satisfied with their current position, but the match remains open with ample time left and expected good weather conditions.
