Arsenal has officially confirmed that midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles will depart the club at the end of his contract this summer. The decision to part ways has been mutually agreed upon by both parties, with Arsenal opting not to trigger the option for a further year.
Maitland-Niles joined Arsenal’s academy as a six-year-old and has gone on to make 132 appearances in all competitions after breaking into the first team as a 17-year-old. In an emotional statement to the club’s official website, the midfielder spoke about his time at Arsenal, saying Words can’t describe how I’m feeling to be honest, it’s been a very emotional journey.
The player reflected on his experience, saying I’ve seen a lot of players come and go and played with a lot of fantastic players throughout my time here. Unfortunately, it has to come to an end, but I’ve been happy every single moment I’ve been here to play and work for this club. He also highlighted the trophy wins as the best moments, particularly the FA Cup final.
Maitland-Niles thanked those who have helped him during his time at Arsenal, saying There have been some lifetime relationships that I’ve built since I’ve been here. I can only be thankful for the people that have come into my life and helped me since I’ve been here at the club.
This news comes following Maitland-Niles’ loan spell at West Bromwich Albion, where he impressed in the second half of the season. Reports suggest that a permanent move to West Bromwich Albion could be in the works for the midfielder.
Despite a tough season for Arsenal, losing Maitland-Niles will be a significant loss for the club, especially given his versatility and ability to play in multiple positions. It remains to be seen where his next destination will be, but the midfielder has undoubtedly left a mark on Arsenal and their fans.
