Renowned DJ and SKELEC employee, Elston Samuel, tragically lost his life in a vehicular accident that occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 12th in St Kitts and Nevis. The accident happened near the Basseterre Fisheries Complex, where Samuel was driving Omnibus PA-2819 towards Bird Rock. He lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a metal fence and a bus stop.
Samuel was a popular DJ, a former Conaree FC footballer, and a dedicated employee of SKELEC. Tributes poured in from Conaree Football Club, SKELEC, and St Kitts and Nevis Football Association. Conaree Football Club praised Samuel for his invaluable contribution to the community and stated that he would be sorely missed.
In March 2013, Elston Samuel joined SKELEC through the People’s Empowerment Program. He quickly became an asset to the team and was assigned to the Transmission and Distribution Division as a linesman. He continued to work on his skills, resulting in his selection to assist with restoration efforts in Anguilla after Hurricane Irma in 2017. Additionally, Samuel represented SKELEC at the CARILEC Linesman Rodeo held in St Kitts in 2019, where he placed 2nd in Pole Climb (Experienced) and 3rd in Basketball (Experienced).
SKELEC also mourned the loss of Samuel, highlighting that he was more than just a colleague. He was a shining star who had a contagious smile and remarkable talent. Samuel’s contributions to the team and the broader community, specifically the entertainment industry, were invaluable, and SKELEC expressed their deepest sympathies to Elston’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
Elston Samuel’s death is a tragic loss for St Kitts and Nevis, and his presence will be missed by many.
