Former QPR player and current Director of Football, Les Ferdinand, is set to resign from his role after eight years. Ferdinand, who scored 90 goals in 184 games during his playing career, has been in his current position since February 2015. The QPR legend has become unpopular among supporters in recent times as the club continues to struggle both financially and on the pitch.
QPR’s latest club records reveal a weekly loss of around £475,000, and they only avoided relegation to League One by six points last season despite sitting at the top of the Championship in late October. Discussions surrounding Ferdinand’s potential departure from his role have been ongoing since the end of the season.
The 56-year-old has had to limit transfer spending in recent years to avoid breaching Financial Fair Play rules. This summer, QPR is unlikely to spend big in the transfer window to balance the books. Ferdinand made new manager Gareth Ainsworth aware of the club’s financial situation and the limitations placed on the transfer budget.
The news of Ferdinand’s departure is expected to be formally announced by QPR in the next day. Though he was considered one of the greatest-ever players at the club, QPR supporters have become disillusioned with Ferdinand’s role as Director of Football in light of the club’s recent struggles.
