The Ashes 2023 tournament is now underway and the buzz is all around the fiery clash between the World Test Champions and the revitalized England team. England announced their starting XI a few days ahead of the toss, while Australia kept their team a secret until the very last moment. Ben Stokes, the English captain, won the toss and opted to bat.

Stokes and the leadership group have made some big decisions for this series, recalling Moeen Ali from retirement after Jack Leach was sidelined due to injury. Another major decision was non-selection of Mark Wood in favor of the experience of Stuart Broad, who is said to have a special plan to target David Warner.

Broad has dismissed Warner seven times in the ten innings they faced each other during the 2019 series; with the method of dismissal being a recurring nightmare for the Australian opener. Stokes cheekily named Ashwin in the press conference, admitting that he does not have a strong record against the Indian off-spinner. Ashwin has dismissed Stokes ten times in international cricket so far.

Broad has 582 Test wickets to his name, and the experience and support he provides alongside Jimmy Anderson are vital for England’s attacking and belligerent batting unit, which requires dependability when in the field.

Ollie Robinson has been picked for the Ashes, and Broad also supports this selection. Robinson has been impressive since his debut for the national team, and his inclusion brings a balanced team that has the ability to offer extra cover with the ball.

Australian captain Pat Cummins has come out in defence of his opening batter, publicly announcing his confidence in David Warner. Cummins is positive that Warner has a great plan in place and is looking forward to his performance in this series.

The Broad-Warner battle during the Australian batting innings is a fascinating subplot, with a lot depending on what kind of foundation Warner can deliver to the rest of the batting order, which boasts Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Travis Head as the three highest-ranked Test batters at the moment.

The Ashes has just begun, and we can already see that it is going to be a thrilling and entertaining tournament. Stay tuned for more updates!
